Thoughts

thats a wrap

Holy shit!  It was a Jiu-Jitsu action packed weekend!  There were three UFC events, one Copa Podio event, the IBJJF American Nationals, and the IBJJF Pro League GP.  I caught some of UFC FN, the Ultimate FIghter finale, UFC 200, and Copa Podio.  I didn't have the chance to see any of the IBJJF Pro League and the American Nationals weren't televised/streamed.

My favorite matches were mainly out of Copa (figured to be right?).  Lo and Santos looked great and met in the final and I had another chance to watch both Max Gimenis (I think he's an up and comer) and one of my favorites in Claudio Calasans.  Brock vs Hunt was largely disappointing to me, mostly takedowns and little other action.  Aldo looked like the pre McGregor Aldo, and I really want to see him get a rematch against McGregor regardless of the outcome of Conor vs Nate.  Meisha got clubbed, busted nose and choked out.  Joe Duffy (Dún na nGall Abu!) looked awesome in UFC FN.  Meanwhile on the Ultimate FIghter finale, Joanna Jędrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha put on a show which ultimately was won by Joanna who retained her belt.

Yup, it was a Jiu-Jitsu themed weekend.  The tournament is this coming Saturday and I feel good.  Today I ran and trained, yesterday I lifted.  There are a few more sessions before game day.  I think the plan is to drive down and back, probably stop in the Bronx or Yonkers to get dinner afterward.

Everyone has been looking good in training.  Marc is his usual self, strong, aggressive and technical, Ethan has been stringing things together and attacking, Laura has been aggressive and Julie has been in attack mode for the past week.  Speaking of Julie, she and Brian went out to the American Nationals where she did very well.  In both Gi and No-Gi she took second in her divisions.  Brian placed third in his No-Gi division before getting injured (hopefully it's not too bad).

6 days.
