Thoughts

swap

So they swapped out my super-fight opponent, replacing the Purple Belt with a Blue Belt.  I can't say I blame them from my opponents point of view.  Nine out of ten times, a Purple Belt should beat a Blue Belt and a Blue Belt should not beat a Purple Belt.  For him, it was a lose lose situation.  At least I still have a super-fight though, and that's the important thing.  I still have to go out there and compete and play my game, nothing has changed in that respect.  I think, if he is available, I will ask Boston to coach me since Brian will be focused on his own super-fight.  As I've said in a previous post, Boston does a good job coaching.  He does well with the kids classes at the academy and he did a great job with me at the Boston Spring Open.

I enjoy having a goal to reach and something to focus on in my training.  After the past two tournaments I competed in were over, I kind of felt lost in my training for a bit.  I was sort of feeling  "what am I doing now?"  I have long term goals in relation to Jiu-Jitsu, but to help keep me focused I'm the kind of person who needs to have short term goals like a super-fight or tournament.  They provide me with a test and an outcome from which I can learn from and improve upon and they also provide a way to break up the daily training grind by forcing me to train out of my comfort zone by getting me into "tournament mode", setting the pace and dictating the roll rather then sitting back and reacting.

In two weeks we will see how it all unfolds.  For now I just gotta keep training. :)
