Thoughts

lax

It’s been really nice to come home from work and not have to log on to my computer for school and start a project, attend a lecture, write a paper, or work my way through a slide deck. It was weird at first, and I felt like I was missing something or there was something I was supposed to be doing. To be honest, I haven’t even really spent much time on my personal computer when I’ve been at home. I have managed to fill my time with making nice dinners, walking the dogs, and taking care of things around the house. In terms of writing here, I definitely have been lax…my last post was in January.

Around the fourth week of December 2022 I got my ass back top jiu-jitsu, and for a couple of months I made it in 1-2x a week. It’s not much compared to a lot of people, and you might laugh, but for me, who has not consistently gone since 2018, it’s a big step, but a step in the right direction. I was certainly rusty, but I moved well, and slowing was getting a feel for it. My slow ramp up from one class, to two, and hopefully to three, was helping my cardio where it needs to be. I’d also hoped that my slow climb would help prevent injury. At 43, I have to understand my physical limits, and during my time away, those limitations have been in the forefront of my mind in every aspect of my life. In jiu-jitsu, I had been making an effort to move slower and more methodically, picking my spots for rest and my spots for explosive movements. Unfortunately, right around April, I tweaked my bad hip and couldn’t keep the guard closed without significant pain. At this point I saw the writing on the wall, but am hoping to limp (literally) through the rest of the year.

We have gone on a nice trip, and I will get it written up and posted soon (I swear).
