So it looks like I've got a super-fight set up. I have been keeping my eyes open to see what is out there, and was getting a bit discouraged at the lack of opportunities, but I managed to find one. Its not that easy as a Blue Belt to find a super-fight, most people don't care about seeing one and would rather see high level guys like a Brown or Black Belt match (I don't blame them lol).
As a white belt competitor I managed to find two No-Gi super-fights, both sub only, in the two and a half years I competed at that level. I managed a sub in one and a draw in the other. The draw was on the under card of a local MMA card, Cage Wars. The other was a similar arrangement but on the under card of of a Muay Thai fight night. This current opportunity is also on the under card of an MMA/Muay Thai card, but it will be in the Gi. At this point it seems like as a team we will have a total of three guys on the card. Brian has a Gi super-fight scheduled, Marcelo has a Muay Thai fight and I have my match.
Like I said earlier, most super-fights are set up for higher belts, and that it's difficult (at least it has been for me) to find them for lower ranked guys. But I like to fight, so for this one, I went out of my comfort zone and said I would fight a higher belt. I could use the experience, and I can also use it as a warm up for the IBJJF NY Summer Open. It will be a 10 minute match in the Gi and with points and IBJJF rules. My opponent is a 160 lb purple belt so it was agreed that I would weigh in at 165 lbs .
Am I worried about fighting a Purple Belt? Ehhh...not really. We have some tough guys in the academy who beat me and push me. I just plan on trying to put on a good show, have some fun and try to get the win. I've no pressure, as I'm a Blue Belt and am "supposed" to lose to a higher belt. And I trust my technique...
