chicken salad from chicken shit
My cardio is starting to slowly come back to where it needs to be. I was able to get my reps in at the gym before training with no issue and trained afterward without gassing (much). Having jury duty for two weeks definitely impinged my cardio. Although my Jiu-Jitsu was ok and actually seemed the better for not doing my normal cardio for two weeks, I'd rather have done the cardio and called it a thing.
Speaking of my Jiu-Jitsu, I've gotta keep grinding and have to continue to attack more often. I can't accept being in guard even though I don't mind it. Marcelo, one of our Brown Belts said to me the other day, attack and don't be afraid to get submitted just because he is a higher belt. Once I get the jump, I feel I can get some submissions but I just have to remind myself to keep attacking. I'm due for a BJJ road trip soon btw. Maybe In a week or two. I also have been thinking about popping into training during the day if work settles out soon.
To quote Muhammad Ali, "I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion." Or this quote from somebody else "Train hard, Fight easy". Not that I am a champion, but the idea is busting your ass in the gym so that when the time comes for your matches, compared to what you did in your preparation for the matches, they become a walk in the park. I think about this when I'm exhausted and sore.
Another thought which crosses my mind mostly when I'm on the treadmill is regarding my opponents. I imagine if I give up and stop running or skip a training session or skip my lift or eat that bowl of ice cream, somewhere out there my opponent is still running, still training, still lifting because he wants it more then I do. And to me, that is unacceptable.
