essential vitamins and minerals

One of my younger cousins lives in North Carolina with his wife.  Nice guy from a good family, went to my high school, played sports etc.  After hs, he joined the Marines and did some time in Afghanistan before coming back to the states and settling in N.C. Since he has been back we have texted it out a bit catching up on things like family shit and life. Turns out we have more in common then just genetic makeup.

In talking I mentioned my Jiu-Jitsu training and lifting.  Apparently while active in the Marines he trained in their MCMAP and apparently enjoyed it and even had two amateur mma bouts a few years back.  Now days, he doesn't fight, just does strength and conditioning. Currently he is in school but will be done soon and wants to start getting more into Jiu-Jitsu.  As a result of this he had asked me some good drills to work on in order to give him an edge when he gets into a good gym and knock some of the rust off in the meanwhile.  Here are a few that I came up with.

So one of the first few things to learn is to escape using a Bridge

Along with bridging, Shrimping will help you get out of bad positions.

Another good technique are Sit-thoughs.  I've seen them done 2 ways so here and here they are.

A basic Mount escape like the Knee Elbow Escape

The technical standup

And an easy submission and or sweep like a hip bump sweep and Kimura from guard.

These may not seem like much but they help give you a solid foundation to build upon.  You are going to be getting beaten and put in bad positions by mostly everybody.  Remain humble and keep an open mind.  Don't rely on strength.  If you are into reading at all or if you never buy another Jiu-Jitsu book again pick up this book.
