So after hemming and hawing, I decided not to compete in the IBJJF Montreal Open. I managed four tournaments this year and did O.K. Not as good as I wanted to do, but enough to see that I am making some progress. In competing in these tournaments, my opponents exposed what I need to do to improve and I am and have been slowly working on these things (at least I think so). In general, competing is fun, but its a hell of alot more fun to win.
Over the last weekend I have come up with some sort of plan for the next three months and next year... Train as much as possible for the next 3 months. This means my normal 3 days a week, plus taking a "long lunch" at least twice a month. Hit up other clubs in the area to get rolls with different guys to keep pushing myself. Really study the online videos I got from Digitsu, I mean watch the fuck out of them and take a month and try technique from one video and a month and try technique from other video. Travel to train, hit up our brother club Black Hole Jiu-Jitsu and get some rolls. I have been meaning to go visit but haven't made the time. I gotta make the time. Travel to NYC to train. My gf has friends in NYC she would like to visit, so I can go for a ride and hit up Renzos or Shaolins while she visits or shops, then meet up for dinner afterwards. Then 3 months from now, I will start to enter tournaments, and I am going to travel. I wanna do at least 6 IBJJF or equivalent tourneys and bring my julie to make a long weekend out of it. I figure she deserves something nice since she supports my ass (not financially) while I train and lift as much as I do. So I want to hit up not just NYC and Boston, but maybe Houston or San Fran and Vegas. We shall see..because we all know how the best laid plans end up.
Oh yeah. So this month marks the one year anniversary of me training with the guys. Its been a blast! Thanks for pushing me and expanding my game!
