Thoughts

without fail

Clay passes my guard every time.  Without fail.  He flattens me out, pins my feet to the ground using my Gi pants, sprawls out or tripods and dances just out of my reach right up to the last second until he explodes to side control...every time.  And if somehow I manage to turn toward him quickly enough, he will hop from one side to the other and into side or back control.  I gotta figure a way to prevent him from doing it.  It drives me crazy.  And I'm not the only one,  He does the same thing to Boston (we were talking about it today).

For starters, I think I can't let myself sit back or get flattened out.  If I hold him up at the point of engagement, I might do a bit better.  I really got to get the DLR in deeper and make sure I keep pressure on his other leg along with a good grip in his sleeve or maybe the lapel (might have better and definitely tighter control here).  And I've gotta try to keep him in front of me.  He is faster, so once he turns the corner, I'm in trouble.  I need to try to anticipate when he goes and butt scoot back.  All these are easier said then done I suppose.  I will focus and get it done though. Today I didn't get a chance to roll with him to try to put my plan into practice, hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday if I see him.

The MOTD today was really good and its gonna fit seamlessly into my guard game.  In randori after class, I attacked a couple guys with it, not successfully but once I work on it more :) game on!
